Please join us in the West Room for a discussion about Charles and Ray Eames, and The Eames Houses — the new Phaidon publication that offers the first comprehensive survey of the Eameses' residential architecture.

Drawing on extensive research in the Eames Office archives, the book examines eight realized, unrealized, and previously unpublished architectural projects developed between 1945 and 1955, revealing a decade of experimentation with prefabrication, modular construction, and new ways of living. Situating the houses within the Eameses' wider work in furniture, toys, exhibitions, film, and graphic design, The Eames Houses reveals architecture not as an isolated pursuit but as a foundation for many of the ideas that shaped their multidisciplinary practice.

Phaidon's Emilia Terragni will be in conversation with Eames Demetrios about Charles and Ray Eames's architectural vision, their design methodology, and their enduring influence on architecture, industry and American design culture. Illustrated with archival drawings, photographs, and films, the discussion will examine how the Eameses responded to the challenges of the postwar era through adaptable, human-centered design, and why their ideas about housing, technology, and everyday life remain so relevant today.

Emilia Terragni is Associate Publisher for Architecture, Design and Food titles at Phaidon, the world’s premier publisher of the visual arts. She worked previously as a Curator at the Barragan Foundation and Vitra Design Museum and studied art history at the University Ca' Foscari in Venice. At Phaidon, Terragni has commissioned landmark books with Massimo Bottura; Diller, Scofidio, Renfro; Herman Miller; IKEA; Bjarke Ingels; Nike; The Silver Spoon; Vitra; and many more.

Eames Demetrios is the director of the Eames Office in Los Angeles, and chairman of the board of the Charles & Ray Eames Foundation. He is also one of five grandchildren of Charles and Ray Eames, about whom he has published widely.
