SAVING SCIENCE IN THE AGE OF DISTRUST

In an era shaped by artificial intelligence, social media, fragmented attention, and the fast spread of misinformation, please join us for a slower, more measured conversation with Dr. Ticora V. Jones, Chief Science Officer of Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), and Wawa Gatheru, activist, climate storyteller and environmentalist — as they explore how the information landscape has changed since the COVID-era. 

The surge in public science communication in 2020 altered how the world processed directives from health, science and political leadership, and left citizens everywhere behind a turbulent wake of strategic discourse. Dr. Jones and Ms. Gatheru will discuss how to develop and share credible science persuasively and effectively.

Dr. Ticora V. Jones is the Chief Science Officer at NRDC, where she is expanding the vision for science at NRDC to support evidence-based advocacy and organizational strategy. Dr Jones served 15 years at United States Agency for International Development, most recently as Agency Chief Scientist.  

Wawa Gatheru is a Kenyan-American climate activist, writer, and founder and Executive Director of Black Girl Environmentalist (BGE), a national organization advancing pathways for Black girls, women, and gender-expansive people in the climate sector. In 2019, Wawa became the first Black person to receive the Rhodes, Truman, and Udall scholarships. Her debut book, The Soul of Our Planet, is forthcoming from HarperCollins’ Amistad imprint, in April 2028.
