Nick Waplington with Drew Sawyer
Please join us for a singular evening with British/American artist Nick Waplington and curator Drew Sawyer.
Globally renowned artist Nick Waplington will exchange with Drew Sawyer about his diverse body of work over the last 30 years, marked by eclecticism and juxtaposition— in photography, painting, video, computer-generated imagery, sculpture and found material. In 2023, Phaidon published Comprehensive, a major survey of Waplington's work from 1990 to the present. And this year, Jesus Blue (UK) published Living Room (2024), an adaptation of Aperture's 1991 release, showcasing unseen work from the series that set his career aflame.
Drew Sawyer is the Sondra Gilman Curator of Photography at the Whitney Museum of American Art, where he recently organized the exhibition "Mark Armijo McKnight: Decreation," on view now at the museum. He is also co-curator of the upcoming 2026 Whitney Biennial with with Marcela Guerrero. An accomplished curator and art historian, Sawyer has focused on the intersection of art and social movements of the 1930s and 1970s, as well as queer art histories and contemporary practices in the U.S.
