Mahjong Palace brings one of New York’s most compelling social rituals to Nine Orchard. Founded in 2024, Mahjong Palace has introduced Hong Kong–style mahjong to a new generation, transforming the classic game into a contemporary gathering that lives somewhere between competition, conversation, and community.

Part of a broader return to analog, participatory socializing, mahjong has become a defining game day for downtown New York—welcoming, strategic, and quietly electric. Mahjong Palace has hosted these evenings across galleries, restaurants, and cultural spaces, creating environments that feel as intentional as they are convivial.

For this Nine Orchard Presents program, the East Room becomes a modern game salon, featuring guided tables for first-time players, alongside open play for those already fluent in the tiles. A curated soundtrack and relaxed atmosphere set the tone for an evening that values presence, connection, and play. No prior experience required, just a seat at the table!
