Jazz with George Burton
Jazz returns on the first Monday of the month, October 7th, with the groundbreaking sounds of George Burton and his latest album, 'White Noise,' hosted by Stretch Armstrong!
Hailing from Philadelphia, Burton has become a sought-after collaborator, working with The Philly Pops, Marquis Hill, Dezron Douglas, Patti LaBelle, and Meshell Ndegeocello, while also spending a decade touring with the Sun Ra Arkestra. His previous albums, The Truth Of What I Am > The Narcissist and Reciprocity, received widespread praise, with Burton being recognized by The New York Times, NPR's Jazz Critics Poll, and nominated for an NAACP Image Award.
'White Noise' blends electronic music, Xhosa rhythms, hip-hop, and jazz improvisation, creating a powerful narrative of resilience and resistance. Featuring collaborations with South African singer Siya Makezuni and Detroit hip-hop duo The Black Opera, the album tackles systemic oppression while offering a sonic protest and reflection on the global Black experience. 'White Noise', out September 20th has been hailed as “a meditation on Black creative survival” by Nate Chinnen (WRTI).
Join us for an unforgettable night of music as George Burton pushes the boundaries of jazz and beyond.
