Cheryl Dunn
Please join us in the West Room for an evening with artist Cheryl Dunn, in conversation with curator Drew Sawyer.
Known and widely recognized for her street photography and documentary filmmaking, Cheryl has successfully integrated her style and vision into her body of work—an oeuvre that for decades has crystallized to represent the immediacy and complexity of the medium.
Growing up across the Hudson River, Dunn moved to New York City in the ’80s, spending a large part of her career documenting city streets and the people who strive to leave their mark there: graffiti writers, artists, skaters, boxers, bikers, protesters, and assorted characters.
Dunn's 2013 film Everybody Street won countless awards and was screened extensively at film festivals worldwide. 2021 saw the release of her feature-length documentary Moments Like This Never Last, exploring the life and legacy of the late artist Dash Snow. She lives in New York City.
Drew Sawyer is the Sondra Gilman Curator of Photography at the Whitney Museum of American Art. He is also co-curator of the upcoming 2026 Whitney Biennial with Marcela Guerrero.
